NEWS!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!!3/3/12: Joe Keady had six hours of surgery yesterday for, well, let's just say they really reamed him out! Jane says that he is progressing up the ladder of the Seven Dwarfs, moving from Sleepy to Dopey and she can't wait til he gets to Grumpy! 2/24/11: We sang out last night at the Four Seasons Club house. Everybody was sitting in easy chairs and we had a good crowd. Most of us are agreed that it was a very good singout. I know we all hope we get repeats off that one. There may even be new members! 2/15/12: Singing Valentines went well with more than 20 engagements all over the county. HOV-4 had a performance that evening for the Lions at Montclair Country Club. 2/712: This is after the fact but Bob Pavlik signed his membership forms and became a member sometime around this date. 8/27/11: Irene is bearing down on us and causing some major disruption. Be safe!! 8/25/11: The broken link showing Sacred Heart has been fixed, now that Dog Days is behind us!! Please note that the "news" link on the home page now has an update date on it. 8/24/11: Well! Last night was Dog Days, a week earlier than normal but a terrific evening!! I think the high point of the evening was the Harmonizers singing "The Stars and Stripes Forever!" It was an instant standing ovation. Thank you, Alexandria!!! Prince William Sound gave a very good performance of their Gospel Medley. We were glad to have a visit from a quartet from Maryland, too. 8/24/11: An email from John Pence informed me that the link for Sacred Heart CC was broken. I apologize to all those who might have been inconvenienced by that. I'll try to get it corrected, even though it's too late. 8/23/11: We are sorry to hear that Bob Wachter is in the hospital with some serious conditions, among them, leukemia and pneumonia. Everyone please pray for Bob! 8/21/11: This is the first time in more than 30 years that the Bull Run Troubadours have not run a pizza booth at the Prince William County Fair. The financial arrangements with the management precluded our participation. However, we are singing out far more often than we used to and that's good. 7/26/11: We are sorry to see Mike Woolford move to South Carolina but he was without a job for nearly a year and he's got a job there. We'll miss you, Mike! 7/24/11: Kinter has a new job at DHS! 6/22/11: Last night's chapter meeting was attended by 16. The focal points of the evening were: 1)the key change in "After You've Gone;" 2) "If The Good Lord's Willin';" 3) "It's a Good Day;" 4) Two songs by HOV-4 which led into 5) a VLQ based on HOV-4 and then another VLQ with other guys. Following the business meeting, we sang several selections on the risers. 5/29/11: The Troubadours attended the Southern Division Convention in Reston this weekend for the first time in several years and WON Plateau A with "Cabaret" and "An Irish Blessing!!!!" 2/22/11: The Music Committee met last night and recommended seven songs to the Board of Directors. So the Secretary will be ordering a chart and learning CD for each of them. Then the MC will evaluate the songs to determine whether BRT can do them. The Board accepted the recommendation and approved it for execution. We already have two quartets who volunteered to learn two of the songs and teach them to the chorus. 2/17/11: Pictures of Singing Valentines will (someday) be posted to this website. Soon, I hope, the pictures from 2009 and 2010 will be posted. A photo of Fo Pa's, in its new configuration has been received and, hopefully, will be posted shortly. 2/14/11: We had a great day delivering Singing Valentines!! When you get somebody to cry, it's a winner! 1/12/11: We are now accepting requests for SINGING VALENTINES! 1/11/11: Our new slate of officers is now on our contact page! Please check us out. 1/10/11: We will have a coach, Tom Meier, come in on Tuesday, January 18. We need everybody there!>/p> 1/09/11: Now, that we have passed the year-end holidays, we are looking forward to upcoming events. Please see the events page. We have something in each of the first four months of 2011! 12/11/10: We sang and sang at Occoquan! This is the first year when we've sent the quartets around to other businesses. HOV-4 went to a tea room and sang to three mothers with their daughters. We were a big hit. There were only two quartets this time but hopefully we'll have three or more next year. We have one more singout, at Prince William Hospital, before the seasonal hiatus for the holidays. 12/5/10: It was a good performance at the Woodbridge Senior Center! We had lots of people to sing to, all of whom appreciated it greatly. Ralph said that when people started to stand during PWS' performance of "God Bless the USA" he nearly couldn't continue to sing. PWS made a big hit with "Diddly Squat" and with "God Bless the USA." While HOV-4 sounded pretty good, they have resolved to have new Christmas songs for next year. Sho'N'Off continues to improve their blend. 10/20/10: High points of last night's rehearsal: 1) we worked on mouth shapes as demonstrated by a coach a few weeks ago. We began to sound better. 2) Christmas songs began to sound better. 3) We sang "I Told Them All About You/You Dear Medley near the end of the meeting and ended on the right key (nearly)!!! 10/3/10: This weekend was the District convention in Lancaster. The 2010 District Quartet Champs are 'Round Midnight from New York City. Of course, the Alexandria Harmonizers won the Chorus competition. 9/22/10: Another Singout! This time it was "The Fairfax" which is senior living facility whose residents are all retired military. This is always a good singout. The facility is good, the acoustics are good and the people are terrific! 9/20/10: We sang out at the Central Library in Manassas today to a select audience (read small). However, at least one lady sitting in the back was singing along. Turns out she's a former Sweet Adeline. We sounded pretty good. 9/1/10: Dog Days! Dog Days was terrific last night. This annual event brings out a terrific crowd of barbershoppers and autitors. It just seems to get better each year. The Alexandria Harmonizers brought their sound and risers and it was very good. The BRT board has commissioned an article to send to "The Harmonizer" for publication and will, hopefully, send a couple of photos from Mal Agnew. Thanks, Mal! This event needs to be publicized as a way to regionally recruit members. 8/22/10: Whew!! The Fair is over for this year!! All things considered, it was a good fair year (is that contradictory?). 8/17/10: Boy was that warm! We sang again in the Show Barn. We had a larger audience than in some years and they were appreciative. 7/13/10: The wanderers returned from Philadelphia and all they could talk about was the convention, the Swedish quartet that placed in the top ten, how good the choruses were, yadda, yadda, yadda. 7/6/10: Mike Woolford is now a member!! Hooray!! Over the last two years we have gained six members!! Way to go, Dan! 3/9/10: Well, we had our Ladies' Appreciation and Officer Installation and it was pretty good. Terry Jordan was the officiator and he was quite serious about membership. However, Erich was drafted as the new librarian! Jim Christie, a fairly new member, was designated our Barbershopper of the Year!!! Congratulations, Jim! 3/4/10: BIG NEWS!!! Downloads are available from the Repertoire page menu bar! If you go to the Rep page and don't see Downloads on the menu bar, press F5 and it should show up. 3/2/10: Format changeover complete. When you load the home page, press F5. Go to each page on the website and press F5 (it may be different on a MAC. I wouldn't know and don't care.). Pressing F5 reloads the page from the ISP to get the latest version. 3/2/10: The BHS Music Catalog is now available on the Repertoire page menu bar. Fox News and the Weather Channel are now menu pics on the home page. You can customize the Weather Channel page to show your zip code. Click on "Customize" in the upper right hand corner of the weather channel home page. 3/1/10: Progress: Working on getting SV photos up; Format changeover done except for photo pages. New link on the link page to BHS' Livewire archive. If you don't subscribe, you can go to past issues at this link. 2/28/10: If you haven't done so lately, explore the BHS website. It is much better than it used to be and it is so much more user-friendly. There is free music available there. 2/27/10: New Singout!! Check the events page. 2/23/10: Last night, we worked on the songs scheduled from last week, "The Chordbuster March" (Al), "Down By The
Riverside" (Al), "Thanks for The Memory" (Rex), and "That Tumbledown Shack in Athlone" (Rex). Kinter wasn't there because
he moved his office from one location to another yesterday and didn't get home until late. Glenn worked us with "After You've
Gone," "Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do," and "I Told Them All About You." 2/22/10: Still working on changing the format of the pages. Also working on getting missing photos up for 2009 and 2010. 2/19/10: A new look is coming to the website! Probably next week!! In a nod to the changing format and sizes of monitors,
website pages will be reduced from three columns to two with all the quartet icons on the left with the BRT photo, and the
icons for BHS and M-AD. 2/17/10: Last night we reviewed “The Star-Spangled Banner,“ directed by Rex, “Heart,” directed by Kinter, “Let The Rest Of The World Go
By,” directed by Kinter, and “Sentimental Journey,” directed by Al. 2/15/10: We had a small number of Singing Valentines this year, but despite the small numbers, we had a great time! |
