Nashville, TennesseeNashville is a small city or a big town. Downtown is compact and if you are going to go to the International Covention, here are a few Maps to orient you before you get there. The convention center is at 601 Commerce Street, right next door to the Renaissance Hotel (big shadow), the headquarters hotel of the convention. The intersection of 5th Avenue North and Broadway is the location of the Sommet Center, where the contests will take place. Diagonally across the intersection from the Sommet is the Ryman Auditorium which was originally built as a church, hence the nickname, "The Mother church of Country Music." They renamed that block of 5th Avenue North to Opry Place in honor of the Grand Ole Opry. The building is now a museum and intimate stage for performances. And the Grand Ole Opry now performs at Opry Land, a theme park just off the freeway around the city. One block west is the home of the Barbershop Harmony Society at 110 7th Avenue North. Near the Sommet Center is the Country Music Hall of Fame and trust me on this, it is well worth a visit. |
